Gearbox Test Stand

Gearbox Test Stand Types

There are three test stand designs commonly used for gearbox testing. They include open loop, electrically closed loop and mechanically closed loop. The closed loop designs are regenerative as they use energy from the loaded side of the gearbox to help drive the input side. As with most things each design has advantages and tradeoffs. The best solution for a particular project will depend on several factors in including the test duty cycle, the total amount of energy required to perform the test, the number of inputs and outputs to be driven and loaded, the number of different test articles to be tested and as always, project budget constraints. Energy savings can be a factor as well if the testing duty cycle and power levels are sufficient.

Emprise is experienced in all three of these types of gearbox test stands:

Open Loop
Electrically Closed Loop
Mechanically Closed Loop
